“BASEBALL’S BLAME GAME”

We are almost a month into the season, and we have seen our first firing of the season.

We have surprise starts.  Terrible starts.  A bunch of injuries.

But we have seen almost no patience at all, and that seems wrong to me.

RED SOX…Shockwaves all over baseball over the sudden dismissal of Alex Cora as Sox bench boss.  Right from the start of the season, I thought this team does not look right.  No power in the batting order.  Alot of young bats in the lineup.  Which of these young pictures do you trust behind your ace Garrett Crochet.  End result a (10-17) and a pink slip.  This was a roster constructed by Craig Breslow, the former pitcher turned President of Baseball Operations.  This is the same leader, who dealt away Raf Devers, failed to sign Alex Bregman, shopped once hot rookie Jarran Duran, and spent big money on Ranger Suarez.  What’s wrong at Fenway Park is the decision making of the GM.

METS..They lead MLB in payroll this year.  It’s a team with some star power, but some ill-fitting parts.  The loss of 1B-hero Pete Alfonso in free agency was a setback.  He got Orioles dollars when the Mets failed to pony up after all those home runs at Citi Field.  Yes they have Juan Soto, but Bo Bichette, and his big contract look like a man without a position.  Francisco Lindor does not look like the same player, physically or emotionally.  The pitching staff looks like patch-work or a bit too young. And the bullpen is devoid of the closer they thought Devin Williams might be.  This seems more on their GM than on Carlos Mendoza.  This is a Mets team that has been in a (47-74) tailspin since last June.  But the axe could fall.

HOUSTON..They have fallen from grace.  A team that got old in the lineup.  a team that dealt away big bat Kyle Tucker.  And a team that has lost pitcher after pitcher with injuries, from their ace Hunter Brown, to their closer Josh Hader and everyone in between.  They still have Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve, but their best years are in the history book.  How is is this Joe Espada’s fault with 6-key pitchers on the DL?  It’s an (11-18) indictment of the organization.

PHILLIES…Alarms are going off that city.  President Dave Dombrowski has built winners everywhere, from Montreal to Detroit to Miami, and even at Citizen’s Bank Ballpark.  But this is a bad start (9-19). with half his rotation recovering from shoulder or elbow issues.  His star Bryce Harper has had injuries two years running and his gaudy stats have been replaced by an occasional home run and (.250) batting averages.  Kyle Schwarber’s prodigious home runs also come with a sub (.200) average and a still high strikeout rate.  Rob Thompson might be an old school manager, but it does not look like he has a full roster.  If things don’t improve, he might not last the road trip, because Dombrowski is impatient, and that’s a high payroll in Philly.

ANGELS..You cannot blame Kurt Suzuki, the manager who has been on the job for 15-minutes.  It’s Arte Moreno’s franchise, full of bad decisions, bad leadership, bad luck.  Draw a line and decide what is worse with this 90-99 loss franchise.  Mike Trout’s injury history?  The awful contract and injury resume of Anthony Rendon?  The gruesome contract of Josh Hamilton?  The drug death of Tyler Skaggs.  It goes on and on.  This (12-18) start is more about the owner and his leadership, than it is the first year manager.

Don’t turn away.  More firings could be coming shortly.
