“AZTECS FOOTBALL–IN FREE FALL”
Lost opportunities. Lost season. Lost credibility.
San Diego State football is in free fall mode.
No quality quarterback play.
A defense in rebuild mode.
A rugged schedule out of the gate, against UCLA, and James Madison and Toledo.
The Aztecs can no longer be considered in a Group of Six power situation.
Texas State comes to town this weekend with a hi powered QB in Brad Jackson. Their offensive numbers are in ‘neon lights’ (523YPG), 60% conversion rate on 3rd downs, a RB group averaging (6.0-YPC) and WRs (13.0YPC)
The Aztecs have a struggling QB in Jayden Denegal; injured running backs; and an inconsistent wide receiver group. Add in, so many new faces on defense, a group giving up big chunk plays and (412YPG).
Sean Lewis knows challenges. He has another one here infront of him, just like he had at Colorado and before that at Kent State.
The Aztecs coach and his Monday Press Conference comments:
============
Last week was not close to our standard of play
We have to be able to respond when things go against us
Don’t let one bad play become a bad second play
Do basics better.
Toledo loaded box against our run game
Javian Kinnard having MRI today on knee
Lucky Sutton having MRI on ankle
Dangerous Texas State explosive team coming in
Good QB..explosive WRs..RB are strong
Coach Kinnie done a good job
Brad Jasckson-really good QB-takes what defense gives him
Very accurate thrower
He knows how to run offense vs all types of defenses
His receivers are dudes-they pop
Not going to talk about the mumps issue on team…it is a private matter
Not going to talk about extent of player injuries
Jayden Denegal needs to play pitch and catch more consistently
Be on time..throw on target..have great fundamentals
Collectively this offense has to be better in every phase
I need to call a better game for Denegal
We need to put him in a better situation
Not going to reopen QB competition Denegal vs Drei Trudeau
Have belief in staff and players..know from my experience what
We are living in the arena-I know this
You can write and say what you want from outside the circle
Losing brings defining moments in life
Know what SDSU history of bad starts-that run off big streaks
Will not revisit RB-Christian Washington decision to leave
Pac 12..Really good league..a lot of players shown up operate at high level
